Activating Telos Connect (Support Link) on the Z/IPStream R1

Updated by Bryan Jones

Scope

This document covers the steps to enable the Support Link options in the Z/IPStream R1.

Description

Support Link (if enabled by you) will allow Telos Alliance support staff to securely and remotely gather configuration and log information from your Z/IPStream. Telos Connect is helpful if you are having problems and require technical support. Also, when used with a Telos Care Plus agreement, it allows full configuration remotely. Telos Connected is a fully encrypted, outbound-only connection from your Z/IPStream to our Telos Connect server. No special firewall rules are generally required, and no special ports need to be opened from outside your network.

Enabling Telos Connect

Telos Connect was introduced in version 3.1.0. As of this writing, version 3.1.2 is available. Please click here for instructions if your unit is running a version older than 3.1.0.

  1. Using your Web Browser, navigate to the main Web Page of your Z/IPStream
  2. Log in with your user name and password
  3. From the Main menu, click on the Advanced Options link
  1. From the Advanced Options menu, click the Configure support link option
  2. On the Support Link options menu
    1. If not already entered, enter the serial number of your unit. The serial number can be located on a barcode sticker on the back of the unit. Serial numbers use the format of four numbers, one or two letters, followed by four numbers. Like 1234T5678
    2. Enter a friendly name for your unit. This is a name that would describe your system to our servers.
    3. Check the Grant Full Access box
    4. Click Save

Disabling Telos Connect

Telos Connect is disabled by default. If you have enabled it and want to disable it and not allow any connections from Telos Alliance support staff, follow the steps above, but UNCHECK the Grant full access and Grant access to logs and configuration boxes, then click Save.

Telos Connect is now DISABLED.

Firewall considerations

There are a few firewall considerations for Telos Connect to function. For more information please review this document.
