Operating Temperatures of the Telos Alliance xNode

Updated by Werner Gabel

Scope

This document applies to the Telos Alliance xNode and the normal operating temperatures.

The Question

We are often asked, "What are the normal operating temperatures of the Telos Alliance xNode?"

The Answer

You can find the temperatures from the Web Interface. It can be found under the System Options/Home page. If there are any major temperature issues, they will show up in the logs as well. There is a thermal sensor that monitors temperature and provides notification of over-temp conditions within the unit. This will measure 0 degree C to +40 degree C, <90% humidity, The high limit is 60 degrees celsius. With the unit being in a well-ventilated rack and room, here is an example how the temperature will look like.

Perfect Environmental: the normal Operating Temperature is about 32 to 105 deg. F / 0 to 40 deg. C for all operating voltage ranges. Humidity: 0-90% RH, non-condensing.
All above 90-100 degrees it will be an undefined state which we may not handle as many parts can fail to work.  In cases where the unit is getting too hot (especially for a longer time), it can cause the unit to be damaged.

Some final thoughts

The Telos Alliance xNode is a fanless design with heavy machined heat-sinks is completely silent. We do recommend a ventilated 1RU rack spacer above and below the xNode to ensure adequate ventilation.  Finally, it all depends on the room and rack temperature.  You should make sure for proper ventilation of any equipment being installed in the rack.
