Outgoing Announcements and Custom Recordings

SCOPE

Using Recordings and Announcements in Asterisk to playback audio to incoming calls before ringing an extension, or for automatically playing an announcement and just hanging back up.

Any information provided here regarding "Asterisk" or "FreePBX" servers refers only to Telos-commissioned FreePBX (Asterisk) servers used with Telos Alliance telephony products. While these are third-party servers and software, we are able to provide limited pointers and advice (like this article) under normal support.  If your Asterisk system was not configured by Telos, it would be best to contact the administrator of your configuration.

Open and log in to the Asterisk web UI

Go to Admin > System Recordings

From here, follow the on-screen instructions.  You can either use your telephone extension to record the message or you can upload a sound file.

After naming the Recording, click Save and Apply Config if necessary.

Upload a recording in any supported asterisk format. Note that if you're using .wav, (eg, recorded with Microsoft Recorder) the file must be PCM Encoded, 16 Bits, at 8000Hz

Go to Applications > Announcements

The default page will add a new Announcement.

Use the Description field to name the Announcement and select the Recording you just submitted in step 2.

Use the Destination drop down box to choose what happens to the call after the recording is done playing.

Extension routes it to an extension of your choice afterwards.  Use Terminate to either hang up afterwards or place them on hold forever afterwards.

Go to Connectivity > Inbound Routes

Choose the inbound route for the desired DID and set the Destination to your new announcement.

Submit Changes and don't forget to click the Apply Config button at the top when finished.
