Manually adding devices to Pathfinder Core Pro
Scope
This document covers manually adding to the Pathfinder Core Pro devices list. Other uses for the devices or other Pathfinder features are not discussed here.
Description
This conversation usually starts with "something is missing." For example, you'll work on a Logic Flow or User Panel and say, "My device doesn't show up."
The prerequisite for integrated control or monitoring of any device is that it exists in the Pathfinder Devices list. There is a process for auto-discovery, but it's usually faster to add it manually if you only need to add a single device. If a device is missing from the Devices list, it won't appear in Routers, Logic Flows, User Panels, etc.
Adding Devices
First, let's confirm it doesn't exist as opposed to being unable to find it.
- From the main Web Page of Pathfinder Core Pro, click the Devices link from the left side menu.
- On the Devices page, put some criteria in the search box; the IP address, the name, the device type, etc. For example, you can see here I have typed "node" for my search criteria, and I see all nodes in my system.
Once we're confident it doesn't exist, let's add it.
- Click the + sign in the bottom right corner of the devices list.
- Enter the IP address of the device you want to add.
- Leave the investigation type set to Lwrp, then click Investigate.
- Once it's complete, enter all or part of the ip address in the search field of the devices list.
You can see in this picture that the WinDriver with the IP 192.168.2.161 now shows up in our Devices list.
Troubleshooting
If nothing shows up after manually investigating;
- If this is a Windows IP Driver, ensure no firewall is blocking the connection on the computer. We have a document on what ports are required here.
- Make sure your device is connected to the network. Can you ping it? Can you access a configuration webpage?
- As a last step, you can try restarting Pathfinder. In some cases, Pathfinder can get stuck during the discovery process. A restart will clear that condition.
